As a way to reward freshman students who portray the SPARTAN values, Team 9-3 elects two students, male and female, at the end of each month. The students are showcased outside English teacher, Lynn Krause’s classroom. The winners fill out a fun fact sheet and receive a prize bag of random items like a pencil or a candy bar, along with a letter that goes home to their parents. The winning students also have a choice of whether or not they want their picture displayed with the sheet.

One of the recent winners, Nichole Long was shocked that she had won, she said it was probably because she participated in class often.

“I was excited, because you get a letter in the mail and it looks really good on a transcript when applying to college,” Long said.

Student of the month recognizes well- rounded, helpful contributors to school. It distinguishes the hard workers, the ones who are trying their best.

“It’s something that focuses on the positive side of things, when most of the day is focused on the negatives,” Krause said.

Student of the month has been happening since before Krause has been on the team and the team will use it throughout the rest of the year as well.
