In Tiffany Mattson’s Insight Skills class students learn on how to feel good about themselves as well as make other people feel good. This December, Mattson and her students started their own Rocks of Kindness Project.

This project originated in Massachusetts when a woman named Megan Murphy was walking along the shores and found a painted rock. She was experiencing some grief and loss issues and the rock she found made her feel special. Murphy then began to leave painted rocks with meaningful messages in hopes that someone else would find them. This project has expanded to many different states and has made its way to Superior High School.

You may have already found a painted rock of your own. The class began distributing the rocks they made on Dec. 1 as a random act of kindness. Passing them out to friends, classmates and even leaving them in teachers mailboxes

“It’s important to spread kindness during this time of the year because there is a lot of people in this school and our community that don’t have much to give due to family issues, financial issues or mental health issues,” Mattson said. “This is just an awesome way to give back to the community.”

If you find a rock, keep it or pass it along to someone who needs it.
