The varsity volleyball team came up short in a close five set match against Grand Rapids on Oct. 7, ultimately losing 3-2 on their senior night and last home game of the season.
The Spartans started off strong by winning the first two sets of the game. Grand Rapids tied the game after winning the third and fourth sets. This resulted in the playing of the fifth set, and Spartans lost the final set 8-15. According to head coach Kristin Asleson, they fought all the way through the end.
“I think we competed, you can tell that by the five set match, we were right there fighting all the way through,” Asleson said.

Since this was the last home game of the season, it was also their senior night. At the beginning of the game, every senior was honored by walking out onto the court with their parents. This is an annual tradition and always means a lot to the seniors according to senior volleyball player Anna Matthias.
“It was special to see all my family support me and it was a little sad because it is one of the many parts of my senior year,” Matthias said.
Asleson believes the team will have lots of practice before playoffs, especially since the season is slowing down.
