Social studies teacher and former baseball coach Donald Dembroski is a major part of many students’ lives. On Saturday, Sept. 27, Dembroski was inducted into the Superior High School Hall of Fame at the NBC Sports Complex, for his time coaching the baseball team.
Over Dembroski’s 29 years of teaching, 23 of those years coaching baseball; he has impacted countless students both on and off the field.
“In both settings, you are always teaching more than just your subject. You are trying to help students become better people,” Dembroski said.
Dembroski teaches more than just different plays in baseball, or about different historical figures in history. He teaches something that will set a student up for a lifetime: building character.
“Coach Dembroski was a great coach because he always stressed building character over everything else. He put an emphasis on making sure his athletes were becoming better students and people while also teaching the skills of baseball,” said science teacher and coach Jesse Samarziya.
Dembroski’s dedication to his team, his students, and to the school makes it clear why he’s a hall of fame worthy coach.
“He consistently held his student-athletes to a high standard of excellence. His commitment to character and skill development, and attention to detail cultivated a winning culture that led his teams to be successful both on the field and in life,” Samarziya said.
For Dembroski’s numerous years of constant commitment to the sport of baseball and his students, it is evident why he was awarded with one of the highest achievements a high school coach can accomplish.
