Class president Brendan Farrell brings a variety of goals to the new school year, including presenting a new committee to student council, focused on student involvement in the school. The Student Voice Committee is dedicated entirely to the thoughts and opinions of students.
“We’re aiming to give a voice back to students when it comes to things that they see in the school. We want to hear what they want fixed but then we also hear how they want it to be fixed,” Farrell said.
Farrell wants students to have a place to share their concerns and their possible solutions, without it falling on deaf ears or getting lost in a chain of command.
Farrell ran for class president in the spring of last year, coining the phrase “Don’t be a slug, vote for the bug!” making a play on his well-known nickname Bugsy. He ran his campaign with a focus on giving a voice back to the students, and following through with events and activities.
Farrell installed his plan for student voice almost immediately.
“Day one we put it in motion…I said ‘hey, I’m going to add another committee, this is important to me,” Farrel said.

A group of four student council members joined the committee to work alongside Farrell in returning student voice.
“I thought it’d be really cool to be a part of that and be the one to help make the change,” Kegan Sumption said, a member of the newly founded committee.
Alongside the Student Voice Committee, Farrell and the rest of student council have big plans for the rest of the year.
“We want to continue doing events for the students, doing assemblies, doing homecoming stuff, and putting on events later in the school year like spring fling, snow week, all the usual stuff,” Farrell said.
Both Farrell and Sumption tell students to be on the lookout for upcoming information about the Student Voice Committee and student council events.
