Coach Lee Sims knew Proctor was going to be a fast course and the Spartans didn’t disappoint. With 30 of 35 boys, and 12 of 16 girls, running new personal best the Spartans finished their regular season out strong. The Proctor Lion’s XC Invitational was a perfect race for the team to finish very strong.

Leading the girls was Senior Elena Almonte finishing first place in the girls 5,000m race. Almonte finished 12 seconds before another competitor even crossed the finish line. She started out in the front pack and then continued to pull away until it was just her and the finish line.

Coaches of the boys and girls cross country team are head coach and science teacher, Sims, and assistant coach and math teacher, Lindsey Smith. Sims has been coaching for 14 years and Smith 17 years.
“We had been tapering a lot of the JV in hopes of getting PR’s, so it was pretty dang cool to see a majority of them achieve that,” said assistant coach Smith.

The Proctor Lion’s XC Invitational wrapped up the regular season for the Spartans and was the last race for JV. Girls and boys varsity runners will be competing on Oct. 25 at sectionals in hopes of advancing.
