Senior Zakk Holmquist is well known throughout the choir community, and has now proven himself as a composer. Through years of practice dating all the way from Elementary School, he has worked hard to make it where he is currently.
Not only does Holmquist perform vocally, he can also perform through piano. This has helped push him further as a vocalist. With the piano practice, he has been leading Spartan Singers in warm ups when choir teacher Timothy Delnay is absent.
“Music has been a part of my life forever,” Holmquist said. “I started to really want to wonder how it works and how to write music about sophomore year, because that’s when I really started to put a lot of focus and effort into Solo and Ensemble and musicals.”
During his senior year, Delnay had to learn German for a choir song directed by Delnay.
“For probably three weeks straight, I was here after school for half an hour practicing with Delnay with my German,” Holmquist said.
He put in a ton of work to accomplish his pronunciation of the specific German words that he sang.
As Holmquist enters his senior year of high school, he hopes to make it to state Solo and Ensemble for his fourth year in a row. Holmquist will be attending the Wisconsin School Music Association Honor Choir in Madison this October.
