On Wednesday, Sept. 24, the girls golf team arrived at the Hidden Greens golf course to compete in the Heart O’ North conference meet. The top five players, Ellie Olson (Jr.) Olivia Prendergast, (Sr.) Evie Jenkins (Jr.), Ellie Pierce (So.), and Kate Galatz (Fr.) represented the team.
Over the course of the season, the team has experienced highs and lows, and each teammate has experienced different feelings of their individual performance throughout the season. The girls golf team especially has been working hard to teach new freshman teammates more about the game after the loss of several varsity players graduating, and to adapt to the feel of the new team while still performing well.
“I’m really proud of everything the girls on the team have pushed through. Each girl has improved in their own way, but overall our dedication and adaptation has helped us most,” senior captain Olivia Prendergast said.
Prendergast was excited to compete at Hidden Greens, however, she noted how the rest of the team had to adapt to the course. Prendergast and Olson were the only ones who had played there before, and it proved to be a difficult course for the rest of the team.
Senior captain Callie Peterson noted how the team had been working to keep mental focus, stamina throughout the season, and knowing what clubs to use for the best outcome.
The team had to mentally prepare for the day and work off any nerves they were feeling.
“As a team, we discussed how we had wanted to have fun while trying our best. Hidden Greens is an incredibly hard course, we all used our mental game to help us get through this course,” Prendergast said.
While the team overall played well, not everyone was happy with their overall performance. Evie Jenkins recognized how she was trying hard to have fun throughout the meet.
“I was not happy about how I played, I did have a lot of good shots but the putting killed me that day,” Jenkins said.
Throughout the conference Jenkins pushed through her nerves and tried to have the most fun she could, trying to complete the team goal of having fun.
The team was able to push through and place fourth in the conference meet, and tied for third overall for the season. On Oct. 2, they head to regionals at the Lake Wissota golf course in Chippewa Falls.
