Behind the scenes: How does student council come up with the dress up days? Superior High School’s student council decides the dress up days for certain weeks throughout the school year. During the week of Dec. 16 though Dec. 20, there will be an opportunity for students to dress up as the holiday themed days.
To decide on themes, student council begins by making a list that usually goes with some sort of theme. They also look up other schools’ social media to see what they are doing as themes. On Nov. 21, student council sent out a form for students to give dress up ideas and figure out what students would actually dress up in. As student council vice president Maggie Stenberg helps come up with the ideas.
“We go through the form and decide whether or not it’s something that we would want to do, and we think about how many people would actually want to participate in them,” Stenberg said.
Not only do they decide what the dress up days are, but they also get to figure out how long they last. One way they figure this out is they look at how many people participated. Stenberg notices that they tend to have more people dress up when they do less days because it is more exciting.
“We have noticed a lot less participation when it’s two weeks”, Stenberg said, continuing “For homecoming, when we did two weeks people felt like they didn’t have to do the first week because they thought they could just do the next week”.
Student council encourages all students to participate. For ideas and photos, look at their instagram @shsspartanstuco for the holiday themes.
