On Feb. 22, boys basketball fell to the Hermantown Hawks 93-66 at home. The Spartans record is now 17-6 after losing their first conference game of the season. This game cemented them as Co-Conference Champions with the Denfeld Hunters after a conference record of 7-1.
During halftime, Mayor Jim Paine recognized the 1973-74 boys basketball team that won the State Championship 50 years ago. The iconic “Shot Heard Around The State” brought the Spartans to overtime against the Milwaukee Lincoln Comets. Spartan alum Mike Stack sank the jumpshot to send them into overtime, eventually coming out on top 74-67. Granting the Spartans their first and only Boys Basketball State Championship.
The Spartans will be at home on March 1 for the first round of the WIAA playoffs as they host the Hortonville Polar Bears at 7:00 p.m.
