The Superior High School Varsity, Junior Varsity, and C Team Volleyball teams faced off against the Hermantown Hawks in their first home game on Tuesday, September 21st.

There were three games played. C Team and JV playing first, and Varsity playing afterwards. JV lost 2-1, after a win in the first set. The players were disappointed, but not discouraged. Strong players include JV players Sophomore Rosie Huber, with a strong serve, and Sophomore Alayna Degraef. The C Team lost as well in a three-set match.

The Varsity team started off strong with digs from Sophomore Maleah Waters and Senior Destiny Hering (senior), winning the first set. The Hawks tied them in the second set. In the third, they came back with another win, and in the fourth, the Hawks tied them again. The fifth set was tense, and the Spartans were close to coming out on top, but it was ultimately the Hawks who won 3-2. “It was a disappointing loss but the team fought hard,” says Senior Varsity  Captain Lexie Lohman while sophomore Varsity player Carlie Lohman took a more optimistic view, “I think that we all played really well.”

Following this game, Varsity will play a tournament at Duluth East High School this weekend. Players are hopeful they will have a strong tournament and come out victorious. Lohman remarks, “We learned a lot of things that we will use in our upcoming games.”
