The Girls Swim and Dive team hosted the Spartan Relays, placing third overall in their first home meet on Sept. 7. Eight teams participated.

Spartan Relays started at 1 p.m. while diving started earlier in the day at 10 a.m. Head coach Bill Punkyo, along with first-year assistant coach Lindsey Lewis, oversaw the event.

“I don’t care so much about winning, I care about getting faster,” Punyko said.

Punyko was happy to see the girls place high as well as get faster. Punyko said that he was excited to see how the girls are going to get faster throughout the season.

Junior Shelby Bresnahan, junior Molly Lenmark, and senior Madeline Casey took first in the 600-yard freestyle. After that, the Spartans took third in the 300-yard medley.

“I had been looking forward to this home meet since the season started,” Marthaler said.

The girls swim and dive next home meet is next Tuesday, Sept. 24. at 5 p.m.
