“Love Simon” is the trending teen romance comedy and for good reason. The movie follows Simon’s hidden journey to find Blue – the boy who anonymously posted his coming out on social media.

One of the many successful attempts director Greg Berlanti made to show the struggle coming out was a scene where Simon realized that only gay people have to come out. Berlanti then transitioned to show Simon’s friends coming out as straight to their parents one-by-one to address an important issue with humor.

Actor Tony Hale takes on the powerful role of Mr. Worth. Worth is an authority figure; however, he spends passing time talking to students to relate and guide them. After Simon’s sexuality is revealed, Worth begins to wear a rainbow flag as a sign of equality.

This up-and-coming movie is the first gay romance movie of it’s kind, and it holds a vital message. When a person – particularly a lost teenager – has a secret that they believe is socially unacceptable, they believe that no one understands them or their experience. “Love Simon” has an overall theme of acceptance – a message everyone needs to hear.
