David Kontny is taking the reins as the new varsity head coach for the girls basketball team this season. However, this is not unfamiliar territory for Kontny who coached boys basketball 5 years ago.

“I will treat them with respect, be honest with them, and I will coach them with a ton of energy,” Kontny said.

Kontny has a very young team with only having three seniors returning this season. Junior Maddy Myer has been on varsity since she was a freshmen, and is coming off her first year as a starter.

“We’re willing to do whatever it takes to win, and working hard at practice is where it all starts for us,” Myer said.

The girls had a final record of 8-17 last season. The team started practicing a week earlier than the boys team.  

“We are putting in a whole new defense, offense and learning a few new plays this season,” Myer said.

The new system that Kontny is installing this year is designed to create lots of turnovers, and shoot high percentage shots on the offense. The girls first game of the year is on Nov. 21 in the Superior High School gym.
